On-Demand Snapchat Geofilters are here. For a special event, talk or live gig. But how else can you use them, why would you, and is there any vlaue?
Well, to give you an introduction Geofilters behave in much the same way as traditional Snapchat filters, you can take a picture or record a video and can then overlay a design on top. Just like the current Snapchat offerings.
However, the main difference is that anyone can create an On-Demand Geofilter and submit it to Snapchat.
If you’re launching a new restaurant, running an event or just looking to gain attention it’s a fantastic way to show off what’s going on, and get users to engage and promote your company!

There are a few rules on what one can and can’t contain however…
Snapchat has a full list of guidelines for On-Demand filters on their website, but here’s the basics.
There’s two different types of filters offered: Personal and Business.
In their guidelines, Snapchat explains: A Personal Geofilter is one that doesn’t include any branding, business marks/names, or logos, and doesn’t promote a business or a brand. You might submit a Personal Geofilter to celebrate a birthday or graduation, for example.
A Business Geofilter is one that promotes a business or a brand.
If you’re creating a Business filter, like we often do for our clients. You have to have the necessary rights and permissions to include any business names, marks, logos, or trademarks and you must also supply a business name while purchasing the filter, and this pops up for a few seconds when the filter is used.
Secondly, filters must not contain any photographs of people, URLs, phone numbers or emails. This means you may need to get creative when it comes to adding a CTA to your filter. A good way to get around this is using statements or funky fonts to sell in something else.
On-Demand Geofilter’s must be between 20 thousand and 5 million square feet too, and each filter can be active for a maximum of 30 days.
We get approached by a number of our clients and brands to build fun engaging filters, and what’s important is the value of the reporting Snapchat offers.
Once your snap has expired you can report on the views, uses and areas the filter has been used which can help you make better filters in the future. Say, you’re running a event with two different filters. Why did one prove more successful than another? Was it the colours, style. These reporting statistics can become very useful for further designing and targeting.
In conclusion – Snapchat On-Demand Geofilters offer an affordable, fun way to personalise your event, or launch.
